Joomla 1.5.17 Released!

SecurityThe Joomla Project announces the immediate availability of Joomla 1.5.17 [Wojmamni ama woobusani]. This is a priority release to correct two issues in version 1.5.16. Although there are no security issues fixed in this release, we consider it a security release because a security-related bug has been fixed and because many sites may be upgraded directly from 1.5.15 to 1.5.17.

The Development Working Group's goal is to continue to provide regular, frequent updates to the Joomla community.

9 things I wished everyone knew about email

  1. Change your settings so that email from you has a name, your name, not a blank or some unusual characters, in the from field. (ask a geek or IT person for help if you don't know how).
  2. Change your settings so that the bottom of every email includes a signature (often called a sig) that includes your name and your organization.
  3. Change your settings so that when you reply to a note, the note you're replying to is included below what you write (this is called quoting).
  4. When you decide you want to email me and the other 10K people in your address book, use BCC!  Blind Carbon Copy... This means that When I read my email, I am not going to see 99,999 other peoples email address's because number 5...
  5. Don't hit reply all. Just don't. Okay, you can... but someone that emailed those 10K people above all 10K people are going to get your reply!
  6. You can't recall an email you didn't mean to send. Some software makes you think you can, but you can't. Not reliably.
  7. Email lives forever, is easy to spread and can easily show up in discovery for a lawsuit.
  8. Please don't ask me to save a tree by not printing your email. It doesn't work, it just annoys the trees.
  9. Send yourself some email at a friend's computer. Read it. Are the fonts too big or too small? Does it look like a standard email? If it doesn't look like a standard, does this deviation help you or hurt you? Sometimes, fitting in makes sense, no?

And a bonus tip from Cory Doctorow, who gets more email than you and me combined: When you go on vacation, set up an autoreply that says, "I'm on vacation until x/x/2010. When I get back, I'm going to delete all the email that arrived while I was gone, so if this note is important, please send it to me again after that date."

Its been awhile

Its been awhile since I made a blog entry, I been having horrible Internet problems and have decided to brake my lease and go to court over this matter as the phone lines do not work in this unit and comcast has really old wiring and cant replace it without doing the entire building and they wont let them.

This is just a partial reason for breaking my lease 2 months early...

So this Saturday the 27th 2009 I am moving into a new place.

Shortly after getting moved you should have the new forum up, JomSocial Installed and User profiles and JoomlaMafia will be a bit more social. We are also going to be running some big promotions and adding an affiliate system to the site.

Please give me some ideas for Profile types related to Joomla, I am thinking Developer, End User and stuff like that, sort of like myspace has producers, bands and regular folks...  Email these ideas at mmurphy at joomla nospace mafia dot com subject Profile Types

MyBlog 3.0

Today Azrul.com has announced MyBlog 3.0 has been released.

"Today, we’re excited to announce the release of MyBlog 3.0 (for Joomla 1.5+)—a major upgrade to Joomla’s most popular (and powerful) blogging component, MyBlog.

In addition to power-blogging favorites such as advanced templating; easy image editing; RSS Feeds, trackbacks, Technorati pings & tags and more, MyBlog 3.0 now offers:

1. JomSocial Integration: MyBlog 3.0 is now fully integrated with our popular social networking component, JomSocial! If you are running JomSocial + MyBlog 3, your site's community members can now have their very own blogs accessible to all from their profile pages. In addition, members' blog posts will now show up in your community's Activity Stream, JomSocial Avatar support is included, and each member can accumulate "user points" with every blog post they make.

Your site truly becomes an interactive destination with the new MyBlog 3/JomSocial integration!"

They have pro versions and none pro (pro has no backlinks to azrul, where the cheaper does)
